Visitors

Mindy’s Garden Fall 2007
As water got scarce in the ravines near our home, the local mule deer came searching for water and sustenance. The first time that we saw them INSIDE the garden, I was upstairs in the office. I said, “I don’t think they’ll eat the tomatoes.” I no sooner said that and one doe turned toward me with a tomato hanging out of her mouth!

With all the Yosemite visits, I’ve been around deer, but never this up close and personal! Luckily, it was at the tail end of the garden, so I didn’t try too hard to keep them out.
The short fence was a minor detail to them; they’d just hop over it! Then, the deer exit down the ravine to the north of us through the hole in the fence.
