The photos above (from 1924) are of her being held by her father (on the left) and her mother (on the right).The little girl in the photo below is Nana/Anne as a baby. She was an only child - born to Swedish immigrants Carl (or Charles) August Nelson and Anna Emelia Eriksson. Charles or Charley was 54 when Nana was born and her mom was 40. I don't think they'd planned to have children so late in life, but that's how it worked out. Nana's father died in 1950 and her mother died in 1962.
The photo at right is of Nana (Anna Emelia Nelson Thiel - "Anne") 
taken when she was a teenager (in the 1940s) at her home in Pasadena. I think she looks so pretty!
taken when she was a teenager (in the 1940s) at her home in Pasadena. I think she looks so pretty! Nana's mom spoke what we call "broken English" and she taught Nana several old Swedish words. The language changed somewhat after "Grammie" left Sweden.
Nana/Anne would be considered a "first generation" American.
